Commodus, AR Denarius, 191-192, "Rome"
t AKES V Q FEL-SER AVG P EVV
Head of Commodus right, wearing lion-skin headdress in guise of Hercules
HERCVLI ROMANO AVG
Hercules' bow, club and quiver with arrows, four pellets below
15mm x 16mm, 2.35g
Imitating RIC III, 253 (S)

Note: The reverse legend appears to be engraved correctly and the obverse legend is not too terribly blundered. The portrait is nice and the reverse is just a little simplified. The flan appears to be good silver, so I am suspecting this may be a Celtic imitation versus an ancient counterfeit. The pellets on the reverse and the obverse containing the circle with center pellet are provocatively Celtic designs.
