Mr. Metzer has an eye for unusual Late Roman Bronzes and a passion for Arles mint campgates. Although he sold the rest of his collection in parts over several years, he contacted me in 2006 to sell the Arles campgate collection as one group. The topic is one which he studied in depth and corresponded with many collectors and researchers around the world. Documenting his collection here, as well as combining it with the other Arles gates in my collection in the Architecture area of this site, will hopefully answer some of the open questions which still remain about some of the "irregular" issues in RIC and the issues Bruun footnoted but chose to exclude.
